Mikhail Voskresensky represents the pinnacle of the old Russian Romantic school. He proves “an imposing, magnetic presence, … passion, impétuosité, spontaneity, and articulation” as noted by Los Angeles Times. Being a famed concert pianist for more than 60 years, Mikhail Voskresensky continues to give performances internationally and to captivate audiences with his electrifying interpretations of the great piano literature of all styles.
Education and Awards
Since his early successes at competitions including top prizes at the First Schumann International Competition and First Van Cliburn International Competition, he has reached the artistic heights and earned accolades like the title of National Artist of Russia, Order of the Rising Sun by The Emperor of Japan, and Nikolai Rubinstein Gold Medal.
In September 2024, after his recital in Rowen University, Voskresensky was awarded The Medal of Excellence. His recent and future engagements include concerts and masterclasses at Aspen, PianoTexas and Northern Lights Festivals, Eastman School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Georgia University, Seattle Washington University and abroad at London Royal College, Barcelona Conservatory, Amsterdam Conservatory, Stanford University, and Hamburg Hoch Schule of Music.
In May, 2025 he will play with Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia 2 Mozart’s Concertos K271 and K466.
Teaching & Mentorship
Until 2022, Mikhail Voskresensky was serving as the Chair of the Piano Department and a distinguished professor at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Following the steps of his great teacher Lev Oborin (first prize winner in the First Chopin Competition in Warsaw), he rose to become the longest-serving Professor in the history of his alma mater. Since 1992 Voskresensky is also a guest professor of the prestigious Toho Gakuen School in Tokyo. He is also the President of the Scriabin International Society. Mikhail Voskresennsky’s preeminent teaching is in demand in many world’s major conservatories and universities. He has been serving as a judge in many international competitions, including Tchaikovsky and Scriabin (Chairmen of the Jury).
Mr. Voskresensky has cultivated a legacy of excellence. His students have won 120 top prizes at major international competitions (including 55 gold medals), solidifying his reputation as a master teacher. Now, as Artist-in-Residence at The Juilliard School, he continues to inspire the next generation of pianists with masterclasses across the globe at institutions like:

The memorable moment of Mr. Voskresensky’s artistic life was a study with Dmitry Shostakovich on his Second Piano Concerto which received its European Premiere at the Prague Spring Festival in the presence of the composer and was recorded by Supraphon label. He also championed contemporary works dedicated to him by Edison Denisov and Yuri Butsko, and presented World Premieres of newly discovered Sonata E flat minor by Scriabin and Piano Concerto by Taneev. He distinguished himself with the feats like All Chopin in 9 recitals, All Beethoven’s Sonatas in 7 recitals, All 27 Mozart Concertos in 4 seasons and recordings, All Scriabin Sonatas in recordings.
